I use either White Vinegar or a strong solution of Citrus Acid crystals or even a commercial rad flush if need be.I like home made stuff but there's some good commercial products if you don't mind spending.

http://www.pdsrecording.site90.com/cxgl500/Coolant.htm

If people own one of these bikes/engines and have not done a cooling system flush then they should do so as we don't know what kind of old coolant crystalline build up may have occurred.Best to take the rad off and soak overnight in the sink in the above, then flush under the tap and then with a garden hose.

I use this as an extreme case of neglect,

I successfully cleared the system that this came from and even re-used that part. Also whilst the rad was off I stuck a garden hose into the engine side coolant transfer pipe flushed that for a good 5 mins to make sure it was flowing ok.I then did the vinegar flush with the system running and dumped and neutralized as per above page and then filled with correct 50/50 mix.
It's one of those jobs that once done correctly may never have to be done again on a regularly used machine that has it's coolant changed at the correct service points. In my case I change the coolant every two years no matter what or before.Coolant, like oil, gets tired and requires renewing.

Also clear all the fins on the Rad and re-paint with some high temp black if required.I use cheap BBQ Satin Black Paint as it can handle the temps and looks good.

With my Electric fan conversions

My temps are kept closer to the oil and coolant nominal working temps than with the Mechanical fans which according to my extensive research should prolong the life of the engine/s.

That sounds fine but the above will do no harm.

PS
