So did you have to shovel your way out to the shop Phil? How much snow did you get the other day in the mountains? We only got about a foot here. I finished the wiring on my bike for my heated clothing yesterday. Today I will tackle the Pro-link, which is squeaking worse. The roads are ridable but covered in salt, so I am working on the bike and not riding.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun overhead as you make your way down the ever winding, smoothly paved, traffic free road!

We got a foot of the white crap. Worst storm in 12 years. It's mostly melted now.
It must be George Bush's fault. Got the plate on back and a pair of used tires on front.

Waste not want not :).
Actually, if you have any more info on your mountain top VT buddy, I'd like to talk with him. Solar is what I do and I'm planning an off grid house (hopefully) sooner than later. With all those solar thermal flat plate collectors, he must be using solar thermal for heating his house. I need to learn more about that.

No worries Phil, I just meant that I'm a newbie to the forum and didn't know about your MGB Trike. Will be really interested to see how this new one goes. You certainly love a challenge. Merry Christmas by the way to you and yours.

The new steering wheel and shaft arrived on Monday. Gee, isn't a 7/8" shaft supposed to fit a 7/8" bearing?
sure after a lot of filing and sanding, (I got to get a lathe and a Bridgeport mill.) Anyway, I got the shaft
made up and the quick release steering wheel hub welded on. I have to paint the dashboard before
the shaft gets mounted up. See example below, of the paint job I hope to achieve.

Actually, I'll start with yesterday, where I painted the black wrinkle finish on the dashboard and am very pleased
with the effect. Today, I mounted the steering shaft and the steering wheel, more pleased. Then I mounted
the windshield cowl and windshield posts. Even more better pleased. Next: off to Lowe's for a piece of Plexiglass
for the shield. Once I find out where that will sit on the cowl, I will wrinkle paint the area on the part behind the
shield. Life is good, even with the record cold, I can still paint in my shop.

Stitch, there is for sure an ignition switch. It, allong with the choke, is mounted on the panel just behind and left
of the driver's position. We are using all of the original wiring. The only wires being extended are the headlights,
turn signals and indicator lights. Both sides of the handlebar controls are mounted on the drop down left armrest.

Today! I fabricated both side panels for the hood. and prime painted them. The left cylinder is still not firing.
It appears to be a fuel issue as the plug comes out dry as a bone. Working up the nerve to drop the left bowl
and check the float. I hate carburators, I should have a diesel with unit injectors.

Phil, sorry to hear the one cylinder is not operating correctly. To check the float level you can attach a clear piece of tubing to the drain, hold the tubing up next to the carb, and open the drain. That will show you the float level without removing the carb bowl. You might use a mallet to try "loosening up" the float valve if it is stuck shut and the level is too low.
My first daughter and her husband are coming to visit here tomorrow from Belgium for a few weeks, I haven't seen them for a year. Otherwise I would ride down and troubleshoot it myself. I've got my heated gear sorted out and the cold weather can't stop me now. Good luck wit the carb. How is the starter clutch holding up? I recommend you pull the starter motor and clean it up, check the grounds etc. My 650 cranks 4 times faster than it did before, and it only took about an hour to service the starter.

I took my torches down to my neighbors wednsday and cut his MGB carcass in half to get him started on his
Harley/MGB trike project. My friend Sam dropped off another large piece of sheet metal and I fabricated another
hood panel. looking better every day. Shirtsleaves today, hopefully continuing the warm weather.

I have a question though. Aren't you supposed to have fenders on it? I know some states require them ...

Not to kick the trike because I like seeing that you are actually doing what you say but these car in front bike in rear things kind of get to me. When you started I thought it was going to look more like this minus all the room between the dash and tank. And of course riding on the bike seat not the rack.

Fenders are not a requirement in most states. It will have fenders before long though, or I will be covered with
red clay dust or mud depending on the weather. That, and the rig, will make me a redneck for sure.
I'll get a "Granny Clampett" doll on a rocking chair to tie to the back. After taking the pictures, I returned it
to its stall and stripped the rear fender to begin the reverse gear engineering & fabrication.
The carb can wait for Mr, Softie.

I know how you feel Stitch, I'd trade this Limo for a Can Am any day, If I could afford it. It will certainly get a lot of WTF looks. Maybe if I removed the fuel tank and put a wider flat-bed all the way from the tail-light to the roll bar and with low stake side boards, it would give the appearance of not being so long. With my knees I could not get my legs into and out from under the hood as you have morphed the picture to look.

All I have to say is WOW! If I had any doubts about that 650 engine being able to drive the heavy frame, they ave all been wiped away today. Bumpy, muddy dirt road and she goes like hell. A little looseness in the steering that is caused by the Porsche tie rod end spindle not matching the MGB socket. A copper sleave on each side should do it. Time to buy the reverse drive components. Yee Hah. Hang on Granny, Dash Riprock is at the wheel.

Hi Steve, Nice avatar. La cosa does have a little shimmy that will be fixed with copper shims in the tie rod stems,
hence the term: shim-me. I am in the process of laying out the reverse motor set-up. Also I'm doing layout for a flatbed truck bed over the back to change the profile
somewhat. Enjoy your Daughter's visit, then if you're still not working, come on down for some test riding.

Phil, I probably missed it in here, but what is your cooling plan? Rad up in the car nose or in the original configuration?

Abes_CW The radiator and expansion tank are under the hood behind the grille. The hoses have been extended under the bike with 3/4" copper pipe.

Getting near the finishing line now Phil, have you made it so the bike is able to be removed from the chassis and made a solo again.

It only takes money and the will to see a project through to an end state.

Tel, The only thing welded to the bike is the rear brake cylinder bracket. So yes, I could return it to a GL650, but I would have to find the parts that I didn't save, to do so.

I really like the flatbed idea for the back. Is that fuel tank still the... well, fuel tank for the rig? That might make the flatbed idea tricky.
Not what I expected either, but I know if I saw that sucker in person I'd jump up and giggle my ass off :). Redneck ingenuity at it's finest. Real cool. -nick
