Status update.
CDI replacement boxes: Order still being assembled, tentative ship date to USA of March 16th. This could change.
Buyers: Still have 3 MIA's, will use the CDI's reserved for the MIA's for any new folks who want to get in before the group buy is closed. If I don't hear from the 3 MIA's by close of GB, sorry, you're SOL this time around.
Drops: 3 CX'ers decided not to get in on the buy. Sadly not all because of short $$, but also health reasons. Won't post any names to protect privacy, but if any good can come of bad news from a fellow CX'er, it's to remind the rest of us to get out there and ride or whatever rocks our boat while we're capable, 'cause none of us know what tomorrow brings.
Stitch: I checked the list you made, and I noticed a name that isn't in this thread: "Dan the Cx Man", if you have his contact info tell him there's still time to make his intentions known before the buy is closed.
Tha tha tha tha that's all folks

Hey Cobram,
Get this. I have a Turbo and a GL650. Don't even need one. BUT, I can't see where it wouldn't hurt to have one here in Nova Scotia, ready to sell for cost to any CXer who happens to be visiting and in need. So sign me up, and I can pay with PayPal when you need it.
And THANKS for mounting this whole campaign!

Whew, the CDI's I ordered are all tentatively covered as I type this. It's incredible, but this is the second time that between drop outs, new buyers and multiple buyers that the number ordered come out to the exact number spoken for.
As a reminder to any newcomers, or the one remaining MIA, Ignitech will invoice extra units to the order up until the day before they ship.
Total units ordered this time around was 36 on this group buy.
Anyone reading this who might still want one, you can order one up until the time this group buy is declared closed or the manufacturer tells me any extras will delay ship date for the ones on order.

CLOSED - CDI *SPRINGTIME* Ignitech Group buy. - CLOSED
|

The Spring 2010 Ignitech CDI Group Buy is CLOSED.
Good News: I received notice from Ignitech this morning that at this point the units will be shipped to the USA on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
Not so Good News: I was also informed that adding units to the order will delay it one week. This is not fair to those who already ordered, so the Group Buy is closed.
I confirm each payment I receive via email, if you haven't received an email from me confirming your payment, I haven't received it yet. They'll get to me, there is no need to keep checking with me, the post office rarely treats objects in it's care like airline luggage.
katkall-I have emailed you, get me the info, I'm waiting for word, but it looks good for squeezing in one more unit without delaying the order.
Anyone who missed this group buy and still wants a unit, drop me a PM/email and I'll put you on the alternate wait list. The wait list is first come - first served for any units that may become available due to last minute drop outs. There were 3 folks who dropped out at the last minute on previous group buys, so there's always a chance.
I'll keep everyone in on the buy updated, as soon as I have any new info, you'll get it.

katkall-you've got email, in the immortal words of Gny Sgt Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, congrats Pyle, you made it.
The expected ship date to the USA is still on schedule.
Again, anyone who wants in buy missed the cutoff date, let me know, if someone drops out it goes to the next CX'er.
Next time I bore you with my somewhat winded updates (sorry, but I've never been accused of being a man of few words) will be when the units arrive at JFK, I figure about a week from the day of this posting.

Hope you got the check by now should be just about there. I was also wondering if you could hold onto the package for say one week before you drop her in the mail just to make certain I am at my new home to receive it. If this adds to the cost because you are not shipping them all together thats ok I have relation in the area that can watch for it.

UPDATE.
Ignitech informed me that the order has cleared Czech customs & tax authorities and has been accepted for shipping to the USA. It should take at most 7 business days to arrive here and get cleared by US Customs.
Any further info and I"ll post another update.

It doesn't look promising for a unit freeing up, as of now all but 3 buyers are paid up. I have your email and will let you know.

If there's any interest I can do another one over the winter for next Spring, so far this one has been the easiest to administer. If all goes as planned this one should be buttoned up by next week, just in time for riding season, as planned.
As to the Sig, very nice to finally meet the immortal "Anonymous"! I have thoroughly enjoyed your prolific scribes and wordsmithing over the centuries. Both the phrases in my signature are from a sig file I have used since my old Argus Arpanet 300 baud dialup days.

A public apology to ramprat (aka anonymous) is in order. While the first part of my dead end sig was indeed in my ancient sig file, the second half was added after he made an astute observation about the original text.
In my defense, I still manage to keep my tongue in cheek, even while extricating my foot!

If any free up or anyone got two and would like to free up some cash, or whatever... I would love to get one. My bike died this past fall, and I replaced the CDI with an ebay one, which lasted for a month, and the bike has been dead since. I missed last fall's buy, and I just thought to check again to see if anyone was doing a similar deal this spring, and it looks like I missed it!

The CDI's arrived, I repacked and got the shipping labels done, if you've paid you should have a notification from the Post Office in your email box with the tracking number. (Except for kat, let me know when you're at the new address so I can ship)
All packages are insured for U$250 for each unit, if they get lost or damaged, this will cover the price of buying a replacement unit on your own directly from Ignitech.
I will send a FINAL NOTICE via PM and E-mail to the 2 group buy participants who I haven't heard anything from since I closed the buy. If you don't respond, I will cede you unit to someone on the waiting list MONDAY, March 29th.
I will drop the packages off at the Post Office today, punch in your tracking number and you'll see it's progress. Give them at least a week to arrive, if it doesn't by then, let me know and I'll check with the post office and we'll take it from there.
There has never been a CDI unit lost or damaged by the Post Office before, so I'm optimistic we won't this time around either.
Tha tha tha that's all folks! Looks like another successful Group Buy in the basket.

Later that evening....

Simplified Color Coded Install Instructions
|
|
|
|
|
On the shipping speed, it did take 5 days, I suspect they're going faster through customs since the last order, during which I was officially filed, stamped, indexed and registered with Homeland Security.
Install Colors:
Bike CDI
Pink------- ------------- Orange (Coil)
Yellow----- ------------- White (Coil)
Black/white stripe----------Green (From Kill Switch)
Black wire ---------------Red 12+ switched.
OEM CDI Connector------Large molex on New CDI.
To get the official Install instructions and tweaking program, go to: http://www.ignitech.cz/english/dccdip2/dccdip2.htm and download Recommended wiring (doc) AND Recommended wiring (pdf).
IMPORTANT: The CDI is PLUG/PLAY and has been programmed to the factory settings for the CX500, you don't have to do anything but hook it up to use it.
A few more notes culled from previous posts:
Underside of the Seat:

Avoid
running the harness here:

Running
the wires in the rail under the brace is the prudent:

The
extra wires you see here are for the relayed lights etc. like the 110
Watt Aux lights:

I
did not splice the red wire, I found it easier to connect it inside the
bullet connector, cleaner and no exposure of the wire sheath.
Wiring Harness Connector.
As a bonus for the Group Buy, Ignitech supplies each unit with a brand new harness connector. You don't have to install it if you don't want. As Randall and others clued me in, you'll need one of these or similar to remove the old pins, hopefully without damage:
It's called a Terminal Tool, I picked on up for under $10 (with shipping) online. It takes some finesse and force to get the old pins out, and if you break any, Ignitech included gold plated replacement pins with this order as an added added bonus.
Here's a copy of kens97sto171's excellent
post on the subject:
|
|
Yep
!!!!! Running great. Seems like the power is better 4-7000
RPM. Here are the pics of the install.. sorry forgot to
take pics of the CDI before I installed it.. sorry.
I would
recomend looking at and saving all the data they give you on the CD
that comes with the CDI.. on that CD is a CX500 specific wiring diagram
that tells you what color wire on the CDI goes to what on the bike.
Here
are the steps.. The
big clip connects to the big clip on the bike... they do not actually
clip together.. the snap design is different.. but they are firmly
together. I guess you could tape it to make sure it would not come
apart.

The ORANGE wire on the CDI goes to the PINK wire
(right coil) on the bike.

The WHITE wire on the CDI goes to the YELLOW wire
(left coil) on the bike

The GREEN wire on the CDI goes to the BLACK&WHITE
wire on the bike. This is the wire from the kill switch.

The
RED wire on the CDI goes to switched 12V+ I believe it is a black wire
on most bikes.. it is red on mine due to a melted wire at the front. It
attaches with a clip on style connector

I
did not like the idea of the COM port being exposed to moisture and
dirt.. so I wrapped it up in a piece of a plastic bag and then covered
that with electrical tape.

I also did that to the now unused plug on the bike
(the blue/white from the old CDI)

Here it is all finished... wires tucked in fairly
neat and zip tied.

I made a video clip that goes over the install, and
shows it running.

I was standing outside today doing the monthly test of my generator and the mailman walked up to me and demanded a signature. Saw the flat rate box ... yay! Can't wait to get this thing on the bike ... perhaps this week. :)
A big thumbs up to Cobram for the group buy.
Cheers,

Thanks Cobram, I received mine today and just got done installing it. She runs so much better!
I did have quite a time trying to find the black wire that would get me the 12V switched power. Just in case anyone else is as incompetent as me, do yourself a favor and put your hand on the black and white wire that you already had to use for the green wire. Follow the black and white to where it disappears behind wiring harness. Do you see the black wire right next to it with the bullet connector? Use that one! Don't bother hacking into the main harness and cutting and splicing extra wire to random black wires so that you can actually have enough slack to work with so you can manage to get the red one attached. That will turn out to be fruitless and will only add several hours to your otherwise quick and painless install! Just grab the black and white, follow it to where it disappears, grab the black one right next to it, and use that.
Hopefully everyone else knows what they are doing.

Thanks Cobram! For any of you who haven't received yours yet, it does need to be signed for, at least mine did. Make sure you're looking for the little slip of paper the mailman puts in your mailbox if you aren't home!

Any chance there are leftovers, or change of heart? I just found this forum tonight and this sounds like a great deal, I'm just a little late.

From another newcomer, welcome to this forum Blacknight. They seem to do this specific purchase a couple of times per year now. I'm a participant in this particular group buy, and observe the coordinator, Steven aka Cobram from Boston, must go through weeks of hard-work to make this happen.

You're all welcome, it wasn't that big a deal, does take some time, but what the heck, probably kept me out of some trouble while I was busy taking care of the group buy. Thanks for your kind words, this one was probably the easiest of the 3 GB's, no snags or delays like the previous one.
There was a post or two in a previous group buy thread about a housing for the unit, too bad the search function isn't up and running.
Sorry to those who found this thread too late, Looks like 3 or 4 of you at the moment. I'll keep you guys posted if a few more folks show interest. There's no way to get as good a price with that few, the export tax is fixed at $30 Euros per order. An order of 3 adds 10Euros (about U$14) per unit. Shipping is also much more expensive per unit until we get above 10 units.
The software is what's on their website, no real need for the CD's anymore. If you want to play with the
settings, just make sure to make a copy of the ignition parameters that
are on the unit, connect the CDI and "read", save that in the file menu,
this way you can program it back to OEM settings if you have to. I've just plugged it in to the PC and looked at it, never
screwed with the parameters myself. You can use the outputs from the unit for a shift tree, upshift indicator, electric tach etc. if you want to add some new toys to your bike.
Final email and PM to the "missing" has gone out, get back to me ASAP if you're reading this, you know who you are.

I wish. My dvd player doesn't even have a clock. Last vcr I had I picked up for $5 and it didn't even have a rewind button. But I had a universal remote and got lucky and it could activate rewind.

You've got PM and e-mail.
It would be a good idea to go back and edit your post to this thread, there are bots out there that scan the boards looking for email address's to slam with scam spam then wham!
