Well, that solves that :).
You know, I've seen a few electric pick up trucks around that are reverse trikes just like yours with a much shorter wheel base. I think Zap or somebody makes them. Shitty little plastic things with horrible range.
I like yours better. -nick

"and the interior..." Interior? What interior? How many of you have enjoyed the "Mad Max" movies? Some of those wild looking improvised vehicles looked like so much fun. I'm sure many riders would like to venture out of the norm, but peer pressure and fear of ridicule keep them straight. It must be the redneck in me, but give me a torch, a welder, and a junk-yard full of various vehicles and I would be in Hog Heaven. The TV show: "Junkyard Wars" was produced just for guys like me. This project has been a lot of fun and will be a lot of fun to ride, if for nothing more than the visual impact, the WTF looks and the OMG expressions. YEE HAH
See how happy these guys look.

I got the 12V winch for reverse gear yesterday and immediately stripped the cable from it, prepairing to modify the drum to recieve a pair of custom made rubber drive wheels. Still waiting for the linear actuator that will engage the reverse motor with the rear tire. Work continues on my neighbors, Sportster/MGB trike.

Ditto with the Happy Birthday.
May someone sing to you today Happy Birthday as Marlyn Monroe sang it to John F.Kennedy

I think my next build will be a scaled down four wheel rat rod roadster , using a GL 500 engine
out front but under the hood. Two passengers
side by side.
I'll have to tell the wife to put in more hours for this one.

How about front wheel drive? And the rear tire just coast. Just my 2 cents.

That would certainly put weight on the drive wheels. but then the whole front transaxle thing...I never heard of any front wheel drive hot rods.

"Pretty neat Phil. I gotta say, that is one loooong unit. The front and back are in different zip codes!"
Here's a loooong bike. Makes Lacosa look short by comparison. I think I'm going to sculpt the flatbed
deck around the existing fuel tank to keep it low as possible.

Today in Lowgap. I spent some time doing more grinding and cleaning up of the MGB rear clip that Dennis and I are using for his Sportster trike. Started fabricating the sub-frame. The carcass is in my shop upside down to make my work easier. As soon as the snow melts some, I'll have the Sportster in the shop for measurements and a new swing-arm fabrication. This will be a bolt on conversion with the mounting points being the swing arm mount and solid struts replacing the shocks. People like pictures. I will try to include a picture of a trike with each posting.

Today in Lowgap, Worked dilligently on the Harley/MGB trike all day. Took it out for a test ride and had to limp home for repairs. We had to rotate the pumpkin up a little more and add some more bracing from body to frame. Just as we were finishing, Dennis showed up for the second test ride and she performed beautifully, he was like a kid with his first bicycle. He took it home to do the rest of the body work. Now, I have La Cosa back in the shop. Back to work on the reverse unit. Sorry no pic, test rides were after dark.

I spent all day in the shop with the doors open and wearing just a short sleeve shirt. I've been installing the winch controls in therightt side arm-rest, I just have to connect the wires to ground and hot wire through a 15 amp blade fuse. What a beautiful day.

Yay!!! the reverse drive is all hooked up electrically and of course works perfectly. As soon as the starter is reinstalled I should be road testing on paved roads. Edit: The starter still sucks, I must replace the clutch, I've put it off long enough.

Today in lowgap:I built an A frame support to hold La Cosa's bike portion while I drop the trike frame and roll it clear of the bike. Tomorrow I will have the engine opened to replace the flywheel/starter clutch. yippee, so much fun.

Today in Lowgap: La Cosa has been put asunder, The engine is face down on the bench with the rear cover removed. The gasket that Dick in Raleigh made for it 5 years ago is in perfect condition. waiting for a strap wrench to pull the flywheel off for replacement along with the starter clutch.

I could tell the starter clutch was toast back when we were first getting La Cosa fired up Phil. Repairing this is good in that it will start reliably for you after the repair. Probably not what you wanted to do though. Was the motor difficult to pull given the framework etc? You are lucky to have Sam and Dennis et al to help when you need it. Say Hi to everybody down there from me. And good luck with the new starter clutch install.

Hi Steve, yes, I knew the starter clutch was toast, so I thought I would keep on with the build and keep putting it off and denying it but now is the time. I separated the bike from the trike and rolled the front end forward out of the way. This required Lableing and cutting the cluster of wires (24 in all) that made up the largest diameter of the wiring harness that runs along the spine of the frame.
Today, I bought out all of Radio Shack's bullet connector inventory for the reassembly. The new clutch & flywheel are installed. The gasket that I bragged so much about broke during assembly at the very top bolt hole. I have some material to make a new one tomorrow. I hate this kind of work. I'm getting too old for this, or as the cheese would say "Wachu mean gitting?"
Dennis is loving his Sportster/MGB trike. I think it's too long. Cmon down and have a look. We'll get another fruit jar of that clear liquid poison.

Maybe I can sneak down there for a bit before my new job starts Phil, I will try to make it sometime during the next two weeks. Once I start the job I will probably not have much time with training and all that. Plus I will be concentrating on work not play for a change.

I just gotta say, I had seen bits and pieces of this great thread over the last few months, but tonite after a long arduous work day, I came home to read it from start to now.......and I am freaking impressed with the creative mind, the will, and perserverence of this project. And that you have the comraderie to your neighbor friend to do his trike too. I don't give a rip what they say about rednecks, YOU ROCK Phil.
