It doesn't really show much but trust me it's big. The pieces are hand made as I go along. Each piece has to be shaped to fit using a metal shrinker or stretcher, and hammers and dolly's. As I get a section done it helps strengthen the shape before I move on to the next part. These tanks have an uneven shape from side to side and extra parts would just be a waste of time. The next one may be done differently anyway. Always a better way after you do it once. Like Joel said, "tiz a thing of beauty!" I also like them "doo-hicky's" (cuz I forget the name of em) to keep the pieces lined up and tight. I seen 'em first in my nieghbor's garage, when he was lining up the tin work on his funny-car. Said he used 'em in 'Nam where he was an "air-frame" mechanic patching up helicopters. And unless you're gonna do the POR 15 thingy, or something similar, the tank needs to be tested for leaks. That, in itself can be quite time-consuming, not to mention frustrating. I hate rust and don't need it in the tank. the joy of that is you can hit it with por 15 and paint at the same time obviously doing the sealer first. It's like multi tasking. Then you don't really waste the 5 days letting it cure. In a way you could get the tank painted and done then send it off for 7-10 days vacation in a box to milwaukee. Then I have to do the finish welding before I can move on the the front and back end. The main body needs to be solid and shaped precisely before I can move on. Otherwise it will warp out of shape when it's welded into place for the final fit. It's coming along nicely though. I just wish I was retired already so I can work on it every day. One more week and I'll be able to say I can work on it every day. Their called Klicos. They have been used in fabrication for years. It's been a learning process for me making the compound curves the way I wanted them to come out. I finally found a bench mounted English wheel here locally. Now I'm remaking the front again. Don is about to add what I did today with it. I don't think I'm going to have much time to do another tank for a while. The bikes are lining up and waiting to be brought over for restoring. It's going to be my main job for a while. The shop I did 3 for has 7 waiting for me, and another guy has a collection of 30 that he wants me to get started on as well. For now the focus is just to get Dons tank done. They already hold a gallon and a half more than the custom. But yes people have done it. And if you really want a bigger bread loaf tank there is a guy on here selling one that has been lined by a radiator shop.
