Heel-Toe Shifter and Floorboards
|
|
|
|
|
These accessories were sold by Markland Industries back in the day. Occasionally others show up that appear to be home made.
These photos were taken from a 1983 GL650I currently on ebay as item number 200230559710.

I don't really know much about them. Feel free to jump in and add to the collective knowledge here.

I have that exact set on my recently aquired GL650I. After 45 years of riding on foot pegs, I've decided I'll always be a peg man. They are very comfortable for riding, but I prefer the shifting/braking positions of foot pegs. Mine are in good condition and will be for sale when I take them off soon. Right after I change the final drive . They should fit all GL500/650s and Interstates.
The floorboards are hinged and will fold up quite a bit if they hit the road, but leaning clearance is very very good before they hit. I have not even come close to dragging them, nor is there much evidence that they ever have.
Perhaps stating the obvious, these floorboards are great for the touring enthusiast, and less desirable for a sport rider who is on and off the shifter and brake a lot. If you find you are height challenged on a GL, these may make that a little worse, as customary feet down position requires legs outside the boards. Not a big difference, just trying to provide the most info based on my experience this spring.
Dave's photo shows the optional passenger floor boards, I do not have those.

Please let me know when you remove them. As long as they are reasonable...and I'm sure they will be, I will definately buy them from ya.
You have just made my day!

lockman,
I have the stock peg setup, also came with the bike, the PO was (is) a real PA gentleman. I'll be removing them within a week or two.
Got the new final drive installed yesterday along with the matching wheel drive spline. Woohoo, the set had 3,500 miles on them! And they were already in my shed! The "old" drive had 43k miles on it and although the oil drained with absolutely no evidence of metal flake, there was a "tight gear" grating feel to it when hand turning it with the wheel off and some noise when running. Ran hot to the touch, but not real hot, could just about hold my hand on it. Just didn't trust it, and am not qualified to disassemble and (assuming there was no damage) change the gear lash.

Do the floor boards for the GL1100 fit? How much modification would be required to get them to fit?

Well...I got the floor board set in the mail today....and I couldn't be happier. Thanks Rich for selling them to me. I plan on cleaning them up a bit and mounting them on the bike the weekend. Aw....who am I kidding......I dont think I can wait 2 days let alone till the weekend. But time and work will dictate how soon.
If I have any questions about mounting them...I hope you may be able to help me out Rich.
I will post a pic when I get them on and wash the bike so you all can finally see my ride. I just never got around to posting a pic.
Thanks again Rich...You really made my day bud.

Well...I just couldnt even wait a day. The way I figure it.....winter time is the time to deep clean...polish and what not...for now...WE RIDE!!!!
Love the look, was exactly what I wanted. Only one SNAFU. I have no rear brakes. The pedal moves and springs back...but for some unknown reason , most likely somehting i fiddled with, i have no rear brake at all.
Any suggestions?

Lockman, I took a bunch of pics before I took them off, of each fastening point. I'll try to get then to you later tonight. It's not rocket science, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Ok...problem solved. I just didn't put the brake spline (i think thats what it is called) back far enough. Now I have brakes from hell. Guess the PO did the same thing I did.
Did my first oil change and filter, man that felt good.
Making my list of things to do over winter. I dont think i will be bored.
Thanks again Rich...I love these things,

Replacing my stock pegs and brake pedal I did the same thing, had to reset it three times before I had it where I wanted it. I sent pics earlier this morning, maybe a day too late, eh?
