I could certainly play that game, but in my mindset, I only have so much blood to let.

Focus boys focus. Today in lowgap: The engine is back in the bike with a new starter clutch. Tomorrow? trike back together. Not bad for someone who has already gotten there, as Cheese would say :-)

Hey Phil, look at it this way. The young people are just jealous of all the life that the older people have lived. There is no guarantee of any more life than the little bit the young have lived so far. They only can hope to live as long and happily as the older have already lived. That being said, you are a credit to trike fabricators everywhere, not bad at all!

Tuesday and I'm still splicing wires, I just can't seem to stay with the job and any diversion will get me off it. When I finish it I think I'll just buy a project pox from Radio Shack and notch the ends and house the whole job, sealed up with sillycome.
Tuesday update: I finally stuck with it and finished the wiring job while tidying up I realised I had spliced a lot of unused wires from looking at the unused block connectors I probably could have eliminated half of them

Far out Phil! I hope the road ahead is smooth for you and La Cosa. I know the road up to this point has had it's bumps, but you stuck with it and you have something to be really proud of.
I am starting my new job this Monday, not the 29th, or I would have cruised down there for the maiden voyage. I will get down there eventually this summer, I am sure. Ride safe and have fun!

Guess I won't hear anything from that test for a while. I did ride the suzie to the hospital though. Nice day for a ride.

Today in Lowgap: Except for an oil leak from the clutch cover gasket and a low battery,
La Cosa is back together. and will be, (probably tomorrow) on the road again. I'm on my way over to broncoman 2000 for another load of CX & GL stuff this afternoon, we'll be using his truck and get most of it today. Guess what! rain tomorrow. Hah.

Today in Lowgap: I pulled the carbs for shipment tomorrow to Larry, I want to bring this build to TWO in April and Blue Ridge campground in June and I want it running right when I do. Also today I mounted the rear lights under the flat-bed.

I don't know Phil, are you sure you want something that shiny on La Cosa? ;-) Actually a good idea to get the carbs up to snuff. I am still planning to scoot to TWO at the end of April. Maybe leave out of PA Thursday night and show up in Suches all bedraggled on Friday sometime, then leave TWO late Sunday and show up at work even more bedraggled but happier on Tuesday morning. Sounds like fun to me!

To date on La Cosa: Tail lights? check. Headlights? check. Stop lights? check. Turn signals? check. Windshield? check. Brakes? check. this PM I will hook up the neutral lindicator light, the High beam indicator light and the No oil pressure indicator light.
Larry has my carbs, I'll be ready to roll very soon. With Vermont plates, of course. Life is good until your wife catches you. :-)

Yesterday: I spent the day fabricating brackets for the front fenders and still not finished with them. I got word this morning that Larry has finished the rebuild on my carbs and is test riding then on his bike today. It is looking good to go for the HTTA South East rally at TWO in the next couple weeks.

Today in Lowgap. I got front fenders!!! They're a little more abbreviated than expected so following the rat rod theme, I'll put mud flaps with red reflectors on them.

I got my "Rebuilt by Larry" carburetors in yesterday's mail, (man are they beautiful) and got them installed in the afternoon. Tried to get LaCosa fired up and drained the battery by the time I realized I had the vacuum line on the wrong petcock tit. After a brief charge it fired up and idled with a nice deap throated purr, (no H box). While it was warming up, I let the flatbed down (hinged) and rebolted to the struts. I then turned the key off to see if it was charged enough to start on it's own, Nope. It is back on the charger again and I'm doing body panels. Maybe we'll ride later this afternoon.

The engine runs perfectly. Many thanks to Larry, I need to rethink and redo the throttle linkage. The reversing unit is mounted to the GL frame too low, the cross bolt hits the tire when the trike hits a bump. The front fenders are mounted to the brake backing plate and are too heavy for that. Possibly some plastic fenders will not vibrate as much (of course my roads are rather bumpy too, it may be a lot better on pavement) Well, back to the drawing board.

White trash wouldn't have had the chrome grill and headlights. That would be ghetto trash. But then again it doesn't have 22 or greater size rims on it so let's just call it Phil's mystery machine.

Today I removed the offending parts and did some more testing. This evening I think I will put some paved road miles pn it and get a tank of fresh gas.
Oh, and the white rocker panels have been painted flat black.

Google Chrome didn't cooperate too well with quotes, photos, and posting active links when it was tested before. If you don't do those things then you should be fine!

One word: Scary!!! The engine is running beautifully. The shifter will take getting used to. the brakes
are great. The steering scared the crap out of me. The Porsche steering is too responsive, I didn't get it over thirty in ten miles to the gas station and back. Time to go online and find a stabilizer Yee Hah

Everything is ready but the steering stabilizer, tomorrow I will address that and the registration. Rain here today and prediction is damp. Let's sum it up, I'm getting the damper, the weather looks damp, and spirits are dampened. Pfft.

Sideboards are killer. They really do make all the difference in the world.
I know everyone always asks for pics, but I'm curious to see the finished shifter / clutch. What makes it tricky so that it's taking a while to get used to?

Clumzi, the shifting motion is left/right The lever I shift is 3/8" rod about 16" long with a couple bends so there is some flex in the rod. it's not so much the clutch as it is the gas pedal it's a little stiff compared to the hand throttle, and it makes the starting off in first a little strange.

I have decided to scrap the rack & pinion steering in favor of a less responsive
steering box/pitman arm. Driving La Cosa on a busy road with go-cart
responsive steering is just too scary. Update. New gear arrives by the week's-end.
I removed the go-kart steering this morning.

Yesterday I started fabricating a pair of plastic front fenders for The Thing. This morning my new steering box arrives via UPS. Guess I'll be busy for a while. EDIT: 5/7/10 The steering box (and my seatbelt) arrived, and looks very friendly for my application. EDIT: 5/11/10 I'll be mounting the front fenders to the steering knuckles with heavier brackets, looking much better. 5/10/10 The steering box is mounted and now awaiting the arrival of the correct pitman arm. Once I have that, I can determine the lengths of the new tie rods. Yee Hah

The front fenders are done. I used sections of a black plastic barrel that was left in the back yard by the previous owner, and 1 1/2" x 1/4" steel brackets. I need to replace the mock-up bolts with something sexier, maybe stainless acorn nuts & washers will look nice
