WHERE IS THE "WEEP HOLE" FOR THE WATER PUMP??
Reply Quote
I need to know where the weep hole is on a 79 cx500c? I have a small of coolant that runs out from what appears to be the bottom of the water pump cover. Can I replace this on the bike if it is the problem? Or can I try to carefully remove the cover and use gasket maker and try to seal it that way?

Also, check out: http://globalcxglvtwins.hostingdelivered.com/viewforum.php?f=7

Read through the "In bike mech seal.." thread, if you take your carbs off you can change out the rubber part of the mech seal with the engine still in the frame.  How bad is your leak?

dang84119,
Here is where the weep hole is. You can see it if you use a flashlight and look in between the pump cover and the housing.

astroguy, be sure not to block this hole.  Doing so will push coolant past the oil seal and into the engine.

Run it a bit, many have had leaks stop with a bit of usage.

Otherwise, search for the shep in bike yamaha seal replacement here on the forum.  It's about an hour's work and $20.

Ditto on the 'DONT PLUG IT'. Mine was plugged by mud daubber (wasp) nests. I could have sworn it was free - snaked it out with a wire. Kept pushing coolant into the oil (lots). After removing the engine and then rear cover I found it was plugged right up by the water pump.

after a coolant flush and refilll, my weep hole dribbled for a few km then stopped.

hopefully, it didn't block itself :-( but I'm going to change the seal when the engine is out for other jobs next month. Unitl then, 'no worries'.

I've tried to snake the hole with a wire but I'm not very confident that I'm getting fully through ....what a kooky place to put such an important engine diagnostic!! Anyways , I'm not makine oil and the oil just looks like plain oil....not green white cream scum on the top of the dip stick.

Saskatoon, you mention that it's about an hours work for the in bike install of just the rubber.....have you done it yourself?
