Easy Step By Step To Add Pictures (With Photobucket)
|

I am sure this has been done but figured I would give it a shot. This post will explain how to add pictures using photobucket.com as the image host. I choose photobucket because I think its the easiest.
To begin, go to www.photobucket.com and create an account. Once your account is created we can get started.
When your account is open you will notice this screen. Click the choose files button. What is cool about this is you can choose multiple files to upload at the same time! Just highlight all the ones you want to upload this session. If you want to only highlight a select few, just (hold down your control key) and click the files. Each file you click will stay highlighted.

When you hit the choose file button you will get this screen. This is where you choose your files.

Once your files are added in your album at photo bucket you will see your images like this. You can make custom folders/albums to put them in but I will let you play with that later. Right now my pics are just in a default album. Place your mouse over the image you want to post. Once your mouse is over the image you should get a flash like drop down giving web addresses below it like so. The IMG Code is what you want to copy. This code puts in the IMG tags for you. Go to the IMG Code, highlight it and copy it (CTL C or use your right click options on your mouse)

Once the IMG has been copied, you are ready to go to the forums. Post your reply or post and paste your image code there. (To paste hit CTR V on your keyboard or use your mouse right click options.)

Hope this makes it easier for everyone out there wanting to understand how pictures are posted here and on most forums on the internet. Good Luck!

You de man, thanks. I was doing a lot of messing around to get things posted, now I know the way. I would rather work on carbs than computers.

BTW, if you want an even easier place to park random pictures just for the purpose of hosting them for a post,
http://images.shrtl.com/ is great. It doesn't require any sort of an account - you just upload a picture, and then use the link (or in this case, copy or drag the picture) to the post where you want it.
[shrtl.com stands for SHoRTurL, BTW - also a place where you can make loooong url's into something like "shrtl.com/w23eyr"
Advantages over Photobucket:
- no membership necessary
- quick, easy, simple
Disadvantages v. Photobucket (or other membership site):
- what you're creating is just a hosted picture and a link - if you lose track of the link, there's no way to find the picture again.
Another resource is drop.io - think of it as a no-sign-up micro-mini website with 100 megs of storage space that you can instantly and anonymously create to park pictures, files, text - and then refer people to, with an address that looks like http://drop.io/howto . Great for quickly putting up a bunch of pictures that you want anyone to be able to access, or a file that you want to transfer to someone else (or about 10,000 other uses). Also oddly useful to take audio notes with a cell phone, or create a small conference call.

How long do they host the image on the non account site? I have seen sites like that for quick hosting and no accounts but it only hosted the images a week more or less.

I host the images on my own server, and provide a direct link that way. I dont' have to worry about maintaining an account that way - just my own domain name.

Both of the ones I mentioned are non-membership and anonymous.
shrtl.com is unspecified - they're relatively new, so they're not taking anything down so far.
drop.io defaults to "one year from last use," (for the entire up-to-100meg drop, not individual items in it) - so as long as it's not sitting totally idle, it's perpetual. [If you want to use a drop for something of defined duration, however, it can be set for as little as 24 hours.] Drop.io is actually hosting their picture files on Amazon's servers (which, commercially, run along the lines of more or less infinite amounts of storage for ~$200/month).
For many things, it's probably worth the trouble of setting up a Photobucket (or the like) account - the problem with all these non-membership sites is even if they host files indefinately, is that without a membership to provide a central nexus for finding stuff, it's really easy to just lose track of the links.
OTOH, a site like drop.io is nice if you want to make a defined set of information accessable to a wide range of people, without providing any links back to, say, a photo account that might also contain one's family pictures or other things. It's that whole longevity v. security v. ease of use thing. I'll throw up pictures, text, and video on drop.io if I'm selling something on Craigslist, for instance - allowing me to post 25 pictures and a video or two of the item I'm selling - but with no connection or links whatsoever to anything else I'm doing in my life.
Drag and drop from drop.io works just fine in Firefox.
