I've seen a lot of people on here indicating that "this is my first bike" and "What do you think of this one?"
I came across this check list it has a quick check, along with links to more detailed descriptions of what you should look for in a "new to you" motorcycle.
As spring is "supposed to be" here, I thought it a timely post.
For those with nicely maintained "used" bikes, it's worth a peak just to see what you should expect of your own ride - before you get it back on the road.

It looks like a pretty good list.
The biggest problems I see is...
Don't buy a bike based on looks no matter how good it is.... until you inspect everything.
and
Find a good friend who already has a motorcycle and license to put it through it's paces. I see a lot of people who buy these bikes and have never even ridden a bike before.
Yes I wasn't and experienced motorcyclist when I got my bike but it was free and I had ridden before.

I had to laugh when I read where they suggest to check transmission condition on the centerstand by holding the bike at half redline in second gear and stalling it with the rear brake (in the test ride section)... If anybody ever did that looking at one of my bikes I'd tell 'em to fork over some cash or get out.

The whole thing is pretty long winded, I mean comprehensive, and I haven't had a chance to read the whole thing yet, so I missed that part...
